Sports

There are many sports activities including golf, bowling, fishing, tennis, cricket, soccer, rugby and swimming in the indoor pool. Walkers will enjoy the beautiful countryside to be discovered in the Teme Valley

The local river Teme is well stocked with trout, grayling, barbel and eels. Day fishing permits for the River Teme can be obtained from Hatton Machinery & Tools on Teme Street 01584 811600 The Post Office also sell full season licences. Fishing Pools can also be found at Woodston Manor, nr Lindridge. Tel 01584 881223.

Swimming

Swimming & Fitness

Tenbury has a public indoor swimming pool and a fitness suite. (An induction is needed prior to using the fitness suite.) Call 01584 810448 for more details. Cadmore Lodge Hotel also has a swimming pool and leisure facilities open to hotel residents and visitors Tel : 01584 810044.

Golf

There are two 9 hole golf courses close to Tenbury at Sutton Park, Rochford T : 01584 781231 and Cadmore Lodge Hotel T : 01584 810044. Cleobury Mortimer has a 27 hole golf course and full clubhouse facilities T 01299 271112.

Cycling

Cycling

It makes good sense to bring your bike so that you can explore Tenbury and the surrounding Teme Valley area. The Spires & Cycles leaflets provide cycle route trails around churches in the area. As well as these, there are also a number of other cycle trail maps covering Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire available from the TIC. Cycle repairs and equipment can be obtained from Hatton Machinery & Tools on Teme Street 01584 811600

Horse Riding

There are plenty of centres for horse riding and pony trekking in the surrounding area. Kyre Equestrian Centre caters for those who have their own horses and would like further tuition. They also have accommodation. (01885 410233) www.kyre-equestrian.co.uk . Others include Grafton Farm Riding School at Bockleton, near Tenbury T : 01568 750602, which also has accommodation.

Walking

Walking

Tenbury is a prime location for walkers. Situated on the borders of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire and close to the Welsh Marches it offers the chance to explore some of the finest scenery in the country. The area also gave inspiration to some of the world’s leading writers and artists. There is information available at the library and maps and books for purchase at Books Books Books and at the Tourist Information Centre in Teme Street.

The Tenbury Walking Weekend

takes place in May every year. A choice of guided walks is available. Full details can be obtained from the TIC and on the website. There are lots of walks, some of which are led and others allowing you the freedom of self discovery. Please follow the Country Code and only use the official rights of way, details of which are available at the TIC, the Library and Books Books Books

Festivals & Events

Tenbury plays host to many events throughout the year. Tenbury In Bloom transforms the town during the summer when nearly every building is adorned with flowers. Tenbury has had a long association with apples. It is often described as The Town in The Orchard. Tenbury holds an annual applefest which takes place in October.

Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire are the three main growers for mistletoe in the UK. There are over a 100 varieties. Tenbury is famous for its Mistletoe auctions that take place in December. The annual Mistletoe Festival takes place at this time also, incorporating music, dance and storytelling and the procession of the Mistletoe.

Tenbury Carnival takes place at the end of May. with floats processing through the town. Always a colourful and busy day in the town. The Tenbury Countryside Show takes place at the beginning of August. (Local livestock show and country pursuits.

Pottery

The Martin Homer Painting & Pottery Summer School has been running for over 20 years and is located just 2 miles from Tenbury at Aston Bank. The courses attract people from all over the world who enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Teme Valley. Markets

The WI Country Market takes place every Tuesday in the Scout Hut, Palmers Meadow between 9am and 12pm. Farmers’ Markets are occasionally held in Tenbury selling food and drink from local producers. In The Teme Valley Go West organise walks, talks and study days in the Teme Valley. This programme of tours, called ‘Journeys of Discovery’, enable visitors to find out about the rich heritage of the Teme Valley and enjoy the beauty of the countryside. Special interest and themed tours can be organised for groups. If you would prefer to explore the Teme Valley at your own pace, then Go West also have a range of leaflets called ‘Wanderer’s Companions’. Watch out for the new Stories from the Stones trails that will explore the story of 6 parishes and provide a fascinating insight into into the communities of the Teme Valley from early Middle Ages to the present day.
